What is the Secret to Team Lloyd Irvin's Success?

How has Team Lloyd Irvin positioned itself as the #1 Maryland Team in THREE different sports - Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and No-Gi Submission Wrestling?

Professionalism. Team Lloyd Irvin stresses being a professional in every aspect of the game. Whether it is hiring professional boxing coaches to improve the hand skills of its fighters or using scientific weight-loss recovery protocols, we believe in using our resources to provide the best training environment possible for our students and fighters. This philosophy extends both ways so we hold our students to a very high standard as well.

A System. Any reputable trainer can focus all his time on ONE student and make that ONE student good. Furthermore, any MMA school will eventually produce a good fighter simply by chance - just stay in business long enough and a self-motivated naturally-talented great athlete will eventually walk through the doors. It is MUCH tougher to consistently produce WORLD-CLASS fighter after WORLD-CLASS fighter. This is one of the reasons why Team Lloyd Irvin uses a BJJ Curriculum. Is is also why most of our competitor base comes from Home Grown MMA Talent rather than recruits.

Personal Responsibility. To become a successful MMA fighter, BJJ competitor, or any athlete, one must be able to take personal responsibility for his actions and be able to be mentally strong enough to examine himself. While everyone athlete "knows" this, very few are able to truly do it. It takes a very particular environment where criticism actually is constructive and direct.

Excellence in All Aspects of Fighting. Team Lloyd Irvin believes in developing the skills of its athletes in all areas of fighting - Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, Leg locks, etc. One of the best ways to do this is to compete in each area as its own sport. For example, to develop your punching skills, no sport is more developed than boxing. That is why we have students competing in Muay Thai smokers, Judo matches, BJJ Tournaments, as well as MMA. You won't hear excuses such as "Well, I would have won if I could punch them in the face" or "In a real fight, I would just take them down" coming from this camp because we train it all.
